Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

Postby GSARider » Wed Aug 27, 2008 8:08 pm

Details on the forthcoming Yamaha Super Tenere in this week's MCN...it should be on show in Cologne next month hopefully with a price tage of around £8.000

Reported to have an aluminium beam frame to keep weigh down, the same braking system as the current FJR, so it should also have optional ABS. Engine will be an all new parallel twin and the look of the bike will be slightly more angular than the 660, but still in keeping with the same styling. Apparently the sales brochures are ready to roll out next month...

Sounds a belter...hopefully it is what some of us have been waiting for. All subject to how the credit crunch affects used prices though.

Looks good.

No confirmed prices as far as I can see, and estimates I have sen elsewhere are around £11,000 - somewhere between a GS and GSA

Abit more video of the Super Tenere at an exhibition with a rather "duff" Oz presenter who did not do his homework prior!

However he does explain alot of the features of the safety sustems which may help justify the price or not!

First reviews seem disappointing - a shame, as I had hoped for a real contender to the GS crown.

There is one on eBay classified ad - 0 miles - £12,200

I have read of other dealers making special discounts too.

Methinks the prices are dropping!

Funny thing is that I was talking to the mktg mgr at Yamaha just after the launch of the 1200 and I said that not only is it expensive, I can't see many people buying straight off the net without even seeing it in the flesh. He said that they were confident that they would be sold out shortly. I assumed they were relying on the Tenere 'heritage'...

My local dealer is saying I can have one for £9600 if i part ex my 08 Tenere with 16K miles on it!

so thats about £4000 for my ten which is better than I could get on a private sale?

I am tempted but dont really know if I want to spend(finance) that sort of money?
